WASHINGTON, D.C.—U.S. Congresswoman Debbie Lesko (AZ-08) led a letter to Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) Chairman Richard Glick requesting a re-hearing regarding the Commission’s June 25, 2021, order which approved the California Independent System Operator’s (CAISO) proposed revisions to its Open Access Transmission Tariff. The letter also expresses concern over the impact the order will have on Arizonans and urges FERC to overturn the order.

“While the specifics are complicated, the result is simple—the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission is picking winners and losers when it comes to energy transmission and leaving Arizona rate payers to deal with the consequences,” said Congresswoman Lesko. “With their June 25 Order, FERC violated their own open access transmission policy by allowing California’s CAISO to prioritize energy transmissions destined for California customers over energy transmissions destined for Arizona customers—regardless of schedules and agreements made between utility companies. This decision could stress Arizona’s energy resources, impact grid reliability, and increase Arizona rate payers’ utility costs.”

Lesko was joined by Representatives Andy Biggs (R-AZ-05), Paul Gosar (R-AZ-04), and David Schweikert (R-AZ-06).
