Each spring, a nation-wide high school art competition is sponsored by the Members of the U.S. House of Representatives. The Congressional Art Competition is an opportunity to recognize and encourage the artistic talent in the nation, as well as in our congressional district. 2024 Congressional Art Competition submissions are due May 1, 2024.
The Congressional Art Competition is open to students, grades 9-12, who reside or attend school in Arizona's Eighth Congressional District.
The winner of our district's competition will be displayed for one year in the U.S. Capitol.
The second place winner will have their artwork displayed in Congresswoman Lesko’s Congressional office in Washington, D.C., and the third place winner will have their artwork displayed in her District Office in Surprise, AZ.
Contest Details:
The artwork may be:
- Paintings - including oil, acrylics, and watercolor
- Drawings - including pastels, colored pencil, pencil, charcoal, ink, and markers.
- Mixed Media: use of more than two mediums such as pencil, ink, watercolor, etc.
- Prints - including lithographs, silkscreen, and block prints
- Collages (must be two-dimensional)
- Computer Generated Art
- Photographs
All entries must meet the following criteria:
- Two-dimensional
- No larger than 26” wide x 26” tall x 4” thick (including the frame)
- Weigh less than 15 pounds
- Original in concept, design, and execution
- May not violate copyright laws
- Work entered must be in the original medium
- Only one submission per student
- Be sure to read the full 2024 Rules and Regulations.
- Complete a Student Information and Release form.
The Congressional Art Competition began in 1982 to provide an opportunity for members of Congress to encourage and recognize the artistic talents of their young constituents. Since then, over 650,000 high school students have been involved with the nationwide competition.
