Congresswoman Debbie Lesko Sworn in for Second Term, Appointed to Powerful Rules Committee
January 4, 2019
This week, Congresswoman Debbie Lesko (R-AZ) was sworn in for her second term representing Arizona’s Eighth District in the U.S. Congress. She was previously elected to Congress on April 24, 2018 during a special election and has held office since May 7, 2018. After members of Congress took the oath of office for the 116th Congress, Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy announced Congresswoman Lesko will serve on the powerful House Rules Committee. She will be one of four Republicans on the Rules Committee.
“I am honored to be sworn in for another term in the U.S. House of Representatives, and I look forward to serving Arizona’s 8th District from my new position on the House Rules Committee for the next two years,” said Congresswoman Debbie Lesko (AZ-08). “The Rules Committee is often referred to as the ‘traffic cop of Congress’ as every bill goes through this committee before heading to the floor. With Democrats now in control, I plan to use my new position to ensure transparency in the legislative process and that Democrats are playing by the rules. I’m grateful to have been selected for this important and powerful committee.”
“I am pleased to congratulate Representative Debbie Lesko on her appointment to the House Rules Committee,” said Congressman Tom Cole (OK-04), Ranking Member of the House Rules Committee. “Debbie is no stranger to fighting for conservative principles, priorities and values. As we confront the challenges of divided government, her understanding of the issues and seasoned background will be vital on the Rules panel.”
