WASHINGTON, D.C.—U.S. Congresswoman Debbie Lesko’s (AZ-08) bill to rename the Surprise, Arizona United States Post Office at 14955 West Bell Road in honor of Purple Heart recipient Marc Lee passed the United States Senate by Unanimous Consent. The bill will now go to President Donald J. Trump’s desk to be signed into law.

“I am grateful to the members of the U.S. Senate for passing this important legislation to honor Marc Lee’s service to our nation and preserve his legacy,” said Congresswoman Lesko following the passage of the bill. “Marc Lee was a distinguished veteran and the first Navy SEAL to make the ultimate sacrifice in Iraq. I am proud to recognize his heroic actions, which saved the lives of his fellow service members. I am especially pleased to see both the U.S. House of Representatives and U.S. Senate pass this bill, and I hope President Trump will quickly sign this bill into law!”

Marc Lee exposed himself to enemy fire three times on August 2, 2006, when his team encountered insurgents outside of Ramadi, Iraq. He was posthumously awarded the Silver Star and Purple Heart for his heroism. His mother, Debbie Lee, founded America’s Mighty Warriors, to honor the sacrifices of our troops, the fallen, and their families by providing programs that improve quality of life, resiliency, and recovery. Debbie Lee lives in Surprise, Arizona.

“Twas the week before Christmas and all through the House and Senate a bill was passed to name the Surprise Post Office after Navy SEAL Marc Lee KIA 8-2-06. This is a special Christmas gift,” said Debbie Lee. “The perfect gift would be to have Marc physically here. Since that's not possible, I know that his spirit lives on as we honor and remember his sacrifice and legacy. Marc stood into the line of fire three times on his final day and gave his life to save his teammates and for our freedoms. Marc selflessly gave his life. He gave all of his tomorrows so we could have our today. He is deeply missed by so many! I am so grateful for Congresswoman Debbie Lesko's support to honor my son by introducing the legislation. She has worked tirelessly to make this happen. I'm also thankful for Congresswoman Liz Cheney and Congressman Brian Babin who were also crucial in speaking in support of the legislation and honoring Marc. Thank you to all of the members of Congress who voted to rename the post office the Marc Lee Memorial Post Office. This is the post office where our foundation, America's Mighty Warriors, ships care packages to our troops deployed, Christmas ornaments to our Gold Star families, and random acts of kindness. Marc's last letter home challenged us, “to my family and friends do me a favor, pass on the kindness, the love, the precious gift of human life." We will continue to do this, and it will have a special meaning to continue to do this at this post office.”
