Lesko Introduces Legislation to Ban “X” Gender Designation in Travel Documents; Mitigate Security Risks
April 27, 2022
WASHINGTON, D.C.—Today, U.S. Congresswoman Debbie Lesko (AZ-08) introduced a pair of bills aimed at curtailing recent efforts by the Biden Administration to allow individuals to select “X” as their gender or sex designation on travel documents, including passports and TSA PreCheck applications, in lieu of male or female. The bills, the Traditional Screening Application (TSA) Act and the Traditional Passport Act, prohibit the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) from using the “X” gender designation in their TSA PreCheck advanced security program and prevent the U.S. State Department from issuing passports with the “X” gender designation.
“At a time when global unrest is on the rise, it is important that we do all we can to protect the homeland and mitigate potential security risks through thorough screening and review of travelers,” said Congresswoman Lesko. “By allowing the “X” gender designation, the Biden Administration has signaled they care more about woke ideology than national security.”
On April 11, 2022, the State Department began issuing passports with the “X” gender designation and the TSA PreCheck advanced security program began allowing applicants to apply for the program using the “X” gender designation.
Lesko was joined in introducing the TSA Act by Representatives Ted Budd (R-NC-13), Madison Cawthorn (R-NC-11), Rodney Davis (R-IL-13), Jeff Duncan (R-SC-03), Louie Gohmert (R-TX-01), Bob Good (R-VA-05), Glenn Grothman (R-WI-06), Jody Hice (R-GA-10), Ralph Norman (R-SC-05), and Greg Steube (R-FL-17). The bill is also supported by Family Research Council.
