WASHINGTON, D.C.—Today, U.S. Congresswoman Debbie Lesko (AZ-08) announced her subcommittee assignments on the House Committee on Energy and Commerce. Lesko was selected to serve on the Subcommittee on Energy, Climate, and Grid Security and the Subcommittee on Innovation, Data, and Commerce. Lesko was also named Vice Chair of the Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations for the 118th Congress.

“I am honored to serve as the Vice Chair of the Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations alongside Chairman Morgan Griffith (R-VA),” said Congresswoman Lesko. “We are committed to holding Big Tech companies accountable for targeting and silencing conservative voices. We will also hold the Biden Administration accountable for its disastrous energy policies that have undermined our energy security, and the FDA for failing to address the baby formula shortage and allowing women to access dangerous abortion pills over the counter. We will also be investigating the CDC for its handling of the COVID-19 pandemic and its pandemic policies that eroded the freedoms and livelihoods of the American people.”

The Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations has jurisdiction over conducting oversight and investigations of all matters related to the jurisdiction of the full committee, including energy, health, technology, commerce, telecommunications, sports teams, and consumer product safety.

“I am proud to once again serve on the Subcommittee on Energy, Climate, and Grid Security,” said Congresswoman Lesko. “I am excited to continue to advance an “All of the Above” energy approach to reduce costs for American consumers, provide clean and reliable energy solutions for Arizonans, and unleash American energy independence.”

The Subcommittee on Energy, Climate, and Grid Security has jurisdiction over National Energy Policy, energy infrastructure and security, energy related Agencies and Commissions, and all laws, programs, and government activities affecting energy matters. National Energy Policy focuses on fossil energy; renewable energy; nuclear energy; energy conservation, utility issues, including but not limited to interstate energy compacts; and energy generation, marketing, reliability, transmission, siting, exploration, production, efficiency, cybersecurity, and ratemaking for all generated power. Energy infrastructure and security focuses on pipelines, the Strategic Petroleum Reserve, nuclear facilities, and cybersecurity for our nation’s grid. The jurisdiction also includes all aspects of the above-referenced jurisdiction related to the Department of Homeland Security. Agencies and Commissions in its jurisdiction include: The U.S. Department of Energy, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, and the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission.

“I am also pleased to once again serve on the Subcommittee on Innovation, Data, and Commerce,” said Congresswoman Lesko. “I am looking forward to working with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to oversee the travel and tourism industry, an important aspect of Arizona’s growing economy. One of my other top priorities on this committee is unleashing American innovation to compete and win against Communist China.”

The Subcommittee on Innovation, Data, and Commerce’s jurisdiction includes interstate and foreign commerce, including all trade matters within the jurisdiction of the full committee; consumer protection, including privacy matters generally; data security; motor vehicle safety; regulation of commercial practices (the Federal Trade Commission), including sports-related matters; consumer product safety (the Consumer Product Safety Commission); product liability; and regulation of travel, tourism, and time. The subcommittee’s jurisdiction can be directly traced to Congress’ constitutional authority “to regulate Commerce with foreign nations, and among the several States, and with the Indian Tribes.”
