Congresswoman Debbie Lesko (AZ-08) and Congressman Ruben Gallego (AZ-07) have secured a bipartisan amendment to this year’s National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA). The amendment requires the Chief of Staff of the Air Force to give at least 6 months’ notice to congressional defense committees and members of Congress and Senators who represent impacted bases before the transfer of any F-35 squadrons. It also requires a comprehensive plan and report on the strategy should any F-35 transfer be made.

“As members of Congress, we must ensure our national security is always a top priority,” said Congresswoman Lesko (AZ-08). “Any decisions by the Air Force to transfer F-35 squadrons from one base to another must be highly thought out so that we retain the capability to train against an advanced adversary and to ensure we are prepared for any potential conflicts against a modern enemy. Because of the recent delay in the arrival of a F-35 squadron to Luke Air Force Base, I felt this amendment was necessary. I thank Congressman Gallego for his support on this amendment that could have a direct impact on the F-35A squadrons located at Luke Air Force Base.”
