WASHINGTON, D.C.—Today, H.R. 7718, the Protecting the Health and Wellness of Babies and Pregnant Women in Custody Act, was passed on the floor of the U.S. House of Representatives. U.S. Congresswoman Debbie Lesko (AZ-08) is a lead Republican sponsor of the bill. The bill was introduced earlier this year by Lesko along with Representatives Karen Bass (D-CA-37) and Guy Reschenthaler (R-PA-14).

“I am so pleased to see this important, bipartisan legislation pass in the U.S. House of Representatives,” said Congresswoman Lesko following the passage of the bill. “As a pro-life conservative, I firmly believe that all life is precious. This legislation is an important step to ensure incarcerated pregnant women and their babies are protected. With its data collection, health care standards, and training, this bill will improve conditions for expectant mothers. I urge my colleagues in the Senate to pass this critical legislation quickly.”
