WASHINGTON, D.C.—U.S. Congresswoman Debbie Lesko (AZ-08) introduced a resolution to express support for Title 42 Public Health Authorities and recognize the importance of Title 42 in protecting American citizens from exposure to COVID-19.

“During my recent trip to the Southern Border, agents from throughout our immigration system—Customs and Border Protection Office of Field Operations and Air and Marine Operations, Border Patrol, and Immigrations and Customs Enforcement—all highlighted the importance of Title 42 Public Health Authorities in protecting our nation from COVID-19 and enhancing our border security,” said Congresswoman Lesko. “It is important we recognize this important measure and the role it plays in protecting our communities from the spread of COVID-19.”

In 2020, former President Donald J. Trump ordered the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to implement Title 42 measures allowing for immediate expulsion of persons or property to avoid the introduction of a communicable disease from a foreign country. Throughout its use, Title 42 has helped protect American citizens from exposure to COVID-19 from migration at the southern border. The resolution recognizes the importance of Title 42 and expresses support for its continued use.

Lesko was joined by Representatives Yvette Herrell (R-NM-02), Mary Miller (R-IL-15), Pete Stauber (R-MN-08), Jeff Van Drew (R-NJ-02), and Randy Weber (R-TX-14) in introducing this resolution.
